Winter may not be known as a fashionable season, however Nate Hill is making headlines this season with his new line of living, breathing scarves that might leave Peta scratching their heads. That’s because his NSFW Trophy scarves as his website would insist to call them are actually white women! No not scarves with illustrations of white women on them, rather REAL naked white women that he wears around his neck. His mission statement goes as follows: “I wear white women for status and power”.

Now before you start adding your picks to your shopping cart, you must know that this is actually an art project that is a parody of people (black men in particular) treating white women like status symbols. Hill puts the naked white women over his shoulders in a fireman’s carry, and then poses for photographs. These stunts are ways in which Hill addresses the social stigma attached to interracial relationships, in addition to bringing to light how white women are regarded as a status symbol.

Iman Carol Fears explained the reasoning behind Hill’s Trophy Scarves like this: Marrying/having a relationship with a white woman seems to be something many successful black men do immediately upon gaining success (Kanye and A$AP Rocky anyone?) and they do it for a number of reasons: because white women are the beauty standard, because of internalized racism, because they want children with lighter skin than their own, etc. A white woman isn’t a trophy, she’s a person.  That’s what this art piece is criticizing.”

This piece is surely getting the discussion started and even more so the recognition. So what do you think about Hill’s latest gimmick?

How good is that smell of fresh fried chicken?  I have no willpower when I smell that crispy skin frying!  BUT believe it or not, now you can get a candle that gives you that same smell!  Really!

This candle is from “Kentucky for Kentucky”, created by luminary Kathy Werking.  What she did to give you that amazing crispy aroma was to actually fry chicken in an all-natural soy wax – with of course infusions of some family secrets!  Another is the “Kentucky Derby” scent, which I think will be a favorite for some of my friends – subtle vanilla-BOURBON and mint aroma that will make you feel like you’re enjoying a Kentucky Mint Julep.

Who doesn’t love Fried Chicken with a little bourbon on the side!

Many of you remember that Funk Master Flex was the first Lugz endorser to have his own signature shoe – THE FMF DRIVING SHOE. And this ad above featured his first shoe out in the series – the FMF-1 Driving Shoe.

But let’s backtrack a little to how it all happened: Between being the hottest DJ in New York, to spinning at the hottest parties – Flex was wearing Lugz. So why not feature Flex in our advertising. His first print ad with Lugz appeared in 2001…

In 2002, he not only appeared in a second print, but he also scored the music for one of our more memorable TV spots. Be sure to check out the tv spot on the Lugz website – you’ll find it in our History Section, 2002 – the “Arrow”.

In addition to all this, he was pursuing his passion for cars – custom cars! Collecting them – Putting on Custom Car Shows. So why not give him a custom Lugz! One to wear while he was driving one of his many cars from his collection. So we did – 2003 – the FMF Driving Shoe was born!

The Human CellPhone? Google applies for neck tattoo patent

If Google Glass wasn’t invasive enough…you can now throw those goggles away and just get a tattoo!  Google has applied for a patent for a temporary neck tattoo that would emit an electronic signal capable of connecting to a mobile device and working as a lie detector.

Motorola Mobility, which is owned by Google, has submitted an application for what is effectively an adhesive device “that compromises an electronic skin tattoo capable of being applied to a throat region of the body.”

While a low percentage of patents ever become actual products, the intent behind this latest filing appears to be to allow a person to wear the tattoo on their neck while keeping their mobile device in their pocket. The temporary tattoo would transmit the conversation from the individual’s mouth to the mobile phone, for example, and could make it easier for them to communicate hands-free.

Optionally, the electronic skin tattoo can further include a skin response detector to detect skin resistance of a user,” the patent application reads. “It is contemplated that a user may be nervous or engaging in speaking in falsehoods may exhibit different galvanic skin response than a more confident, truth telling individual.” The tattoo would therefore serve a similar purpose as a polygraph machine.  Power for the tattoo would come from a variety of sources, “solar panel technology, capacitive technology, nanotechnology, or electro-mechanical technology” among them.

The new idea is already taking on the same criticisms that Google Glass has struggled against – that it is simply too invasive for those who do not want to participate. Although reluctance to the product was expected, social media and the blogosphere met the news with practicality, suggesting the lie-detection could be beneficial.

They could run a few tests on this patch in Washington DC,” one commenter wrote. “Require one on the forehead of every politician.”

Josh Koscheck Hits the Cage against Woodley

This Saturday night (Nov. 16, 2013)Lugz endorser Josh Koscheck and Tyron Woodley will square off on the main card of UFC 167 from MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Both fighters are two of the most highly-decorated amateur wrestlers in mixed martial arts (MMA). Koscheck won the 2001 NCAA Division I national championship at 174 pounds, while Woodley was a Division I All-American in both 2003 and 2005. That shared wrestling prowess could translate to this fight taking place mainly on the feet.

In addition to their considerable mat skills, “Kos” and Woodley have also shown they are very proficient strikers. Koscheck got his start on The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 1 and hasn’t looked back ever since. Woodley is the opposite of Koscheck only in the sense that he has two UFC bouts to his name. Woodley has a golden opportunity against one of the toughest fighters he’s ever faced in Koscheck.

Koscheck has seen a lot in his eight-year UFC career. He’s faced off against many of the best welterweights in the world during that span. With both fighters being such experienced wrestlers, this bout will come down to who can impose their will the most.

Koscheck has grown to love his big overhand right in recent years. He’ll most likely be throwing it early and often this Saturday. Woodley showed that he can be knocked out against Marquardt, so getting in his face with some combinations will be an obvious path to success for Koscheck.

The bottom line for this fight is that both of these fighters are top-flight wrestlers with knockout power, to boot. They could easily cancel each other out in the takedown game, leading to a boxing match that could end several ways. Koscheck could use his Octagon savvy to grind Woodley out against the cage. He could also knock out Woodley with a well-placed combination..

This fight will show if Koscheck’s head is still in the game or not. Another stoppage loss will undoubtedly have many calling for his retirement.Woodley has the chance to rise up in the stacked welterweight division. He’ll have to pass the test that “Kos” presents first.

Koscheck and Woodley are at different spots in their respective careers but their styles really aren’t all that different. With two heavy hitters like these, this bout might just come down to who lands the biggest shot first.
