In “Prisoners”, a pair of suburban families(the Dovers & Birches) headed by Hugh Jackman and Terrance Howard, lives are turned upside down, when their young daughters suddenly disappear one rainy Thanksgiving Day. Despite the best efforts of Detective Loki played by Jake Gyllenhaal to solve the case, Dovers frustration reaches a head when the police chief allows the primary suspect, Alex Jones to go free. Convinced that Jones is responsible for the pairs abduction, Dover takes matters into his own hands, completely ignoring the law. But Just how far will this desperate father go to find his abducted 6 year old daughter? The film examines the horror of child abduction from a variety of perspectives and although some may connect this as being similar to the action-drama version “Taken”,this film actually has less over the top chase/fight scenes and more emotionally absorbing and impactful sequences. In spite of a 153 minute runtime, nearly every scene is essential to the plot and gives a violent and disturbing look at the blurred lines between good and bad people.
If you’re still on the fence about Prisoners, check out the trailer below:
So I know last week I was raving that the Laurel slip on was going to be my absolute favorite for the fall. Well I may have changed my mind. Of course I’m a woman, and that’s my prerogative (isn’t it?). Don’t get me wrong – I still love the Laurel’s for running around town and going to yoga, but now Lugz introduced two great ankle booties that I absolutely LOVE. The Kaya and the Dahlia.
These suede moccasin type booties both have that great fringe detail. Kaya has some leather laces while the Dalhia just zips up the back. You have to go check them out and see all the cool details on them.
Fall is the time of year that I live in jeans, jeggings or my leggings. I know we all want to be comfortable, but you can be fashionable too with these on.
What were you doing on September 17th,2013? Well the people over at GTA were definitely out celebrating as their latest release Grand Theft Auto V, became the fastest selling game in the series and could possibly be the fastest selling game ever! The previous record was set by Black Ops 2 last year, which made $500 million on day one. Beginning at midnight on Monday September 16th, consumers around the world gathered in anticipation to be among the first to experience the evolution of this remarkable series. In North America alone, more than 8,300 stores opened their doors at midnight to welcome fans whose loyalty and enthusiasm were rewarded with what The New York Times called ‘the most immersive spectacle in interactive entertainment’. Well the game returns the series to Los Santos, the setting of last-gen title GTA: San Andreas. Players take on the role of criminals Michael, Trevor and Franklin in a series of heists. Alternately, they can explore a massive game world and engage in side activities that range from tennis to sky diving to racing. It’s estimated that GTA V took over $265 million to develop and market. That sounded like an obscene amount of money at the time. However, Rockstar already made their money back three times over in a single day, making it a worthwhile investment and possibly the biggest sales day we’ve ever seen in gaming.
Okay fellas – we know everyone has those crazy morning – wake up late, have an 8:00 am meeting with the boss – and you have to shave. Oh, and add in there that you only had a couple of hours sleep. A slip of the razor is bound to happen! So here are a few remedies to help get you out the door without that toilet paper stuck all over those cuts on your face!
Because most antiperspirants contain aluminum chloride – it will shrink sweat glands and constrict blood vessels, while clotting a nick.
Smear on a little ChapStick or Vaseline – it will work like a seal and keep bigger cuts from forming unsightly scabs.
Cold shrinks blood vessels (as you may have experienced last time you jumped into a cold pool), which enables a clot to form fast.
Most contain alcohol, acting like an astringent which halts blood flow by causing tissues to contract
The drops can actually slow down the bleeding by constricting blood vessels.
With Fall weather upon us – or at least the calendar tells us that it will be here very soon – it’s time to start getting your footwear in check. Long days and cold nights = great shoes and boots that are not only comfortable but will keep you warm!

Easy to shop for – just go to Lugz.com. The hardest decision will be picking your favorite color. My advice – get a couple! Happy Shopping my friends…
“Wear your broccoli” is the new “Eat your broccoli” according to Sally Dickinson, a research assistant professor at the University of Arizona Cancer Center who said that sulforaphane, a naturally occurring compound found in broccoli, may protect the skin from harmful UV rays.
According to Dickinson, compounds found in broccoli were found to have many incredible theoretical applications if the dosage is measured properly including the effectiveness in blocking sunburns including inducing protective enzymes in the skin. In her research, Dickinson found that sulforaphane can inhibit cancer-causing pathways like the AP-1 protein as well as activate chemo protective genes.
Dickinson will team up with researchers from Johns Hopkins University for a pilot study to see if a broccoli-based ointment effectively protects skin exposed to artificial sunlight. “We’re searching for better methods to prevent skin cancer in formats that are affordable and manageable for public use,” Dickinson said. This could mean we might someday be spreading broccoli cream all over ourselves before we head outdoors. But in the meantime, still wear the regular-old SPF stuff. And, yes, still eat your broccoli. It’ll make your mom happy.
With the ability to take pictures with your smartphone, many people consider themselves a photographer now. Well Sony has announced the world’s first smartphone attachable lens-style cameras. The DSC-QX family will pump more fuel into smartphone photography. The QX10 turns your smartphone into a 10x zoom camera and the QX100 will provide a pro-grade lens & sensor combo due to the f1.8 Carl Zeiss lens with 3.6x optical zoom.
Don’t get too excited because the lenses are not cheap. The QX10 will set you back about $249 and the QX100 will be $400 plus. But if you are into photography you know its all about the glass so a true photographer will spend on a good lens.
I really wonder how far smartphone technology can go. Will it kill the entry level camera industry like it did the personal mp3 player market? Think about the last event you were at. Did anyone pull out a Sony Cybershot to take a picture?

Although I haven’t caught on to the “deep frying” Turkey trend yet – I definitely love a good fried oreo or twinkie at the state fair.
But KFC is taking things to another level. Starting September 5th (for a limited time) – across Japan – they are taking the common creamy soup corn potage that is available in Japenese café’s, mixing it with their own batter – and FRYING it! Giving you the Deep Fried Corn Potage Fritter. And they are making sure that you get “real” corn kernels in every bite.
I know some people say that most things fried are good – but the jury is still out on this one!
